Texas National Guard Soldier Shoots Into Mexico

El Paso (WBAP/KLIF) A member of the Texas National Guard stationed in El Paso as part of Operation Lone Star touched off an international protest by firing at least one shot into Mexico. The unidentified guardsman reportedly shot across the Rio Grande into Mexico. A Mexican man standing on the Mexican side of the border was shot in the leg, and hospitalized in Ciudad Juarez. The Mexican government has objected, and wants a full investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Texas Military Department has acknowledged the shooting, but has not yet explained why it happened.
