(WBAP/KLIF) — Southwest Airlines received a blistering 29-page court order, Monday.
A federal judge has levied sanctions on Southwest Airlines for disregarding his order following a lawsuit won by one of its flight attendants. The most recent ruling stems from the case of flight attendant Charlene Carter, who was fired for criticizing a union boss for attending an abortion rights rally. Carter was awarded $800,000 last year, after a jury found the airline and union liable.

The Dallas-based airline was ordered by U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr to inform flight attendants that under federal law, the airline “may not discriminate against southwest flight attendants for their religious practices and beliefs.” However, the airline ignored the order and told flight attendants to follow the airline policy that it cited in firing Carter.
Southwest will now have to pay for Carter’s most recent legal costs, correctly inform flight attendants of their religious liberty rights, and three of the airline’s lawyers are ordered to complete “religious-liberty training”.
