AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas House of Representatives’ General Investigating Committee heard testimony on Wednesday surrounding allegations against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The embattled Attorney General is facing lingering social securities fraud charges and is accused of using taxpayer money to settle a $3.3 million whistleblower lawsuit.
Former Paxton employees allege they were fired after reporting misconduct against Paxton.
“The interviews suggest, and the settlement implies, that they made a report they believed was necessary, ethically required, and legally obligated to make, and they were fired,” Attorney Erin Epley told the committee.
The panel of lawyers said there was evidence to bring anumber of criminal charges against Paxton, including abuse and misuse of power. The Attorney General is also accused of taking action against a charity to benefit a campaign donor.
The AG responded to the allegations Wednesday afternoon and placed blame on Texas Speaker of the House Dade Phelan.
Following Wednesday’s testimony, the committee met in executive session. The hearing later ended without any action being taken.
