Former Dallas Cowboy Dies in Rock Climbing Accident

(WBAP/KLIF) — Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar was found dead after a rock climbing accident in California, Wednesday afternoon.

The 31-year-old was one of two rock climbers found deceased in the Idyllwild area. The other victim was 33-year-old Chelsea Walsh. Both were found after Riverside firefighters hiked to the victims’ location at Tahquitz Rock. The investigation into the cause of their deaths continues.

Escobar was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft and played with the team from 2013-2016. The California native became a Long Beach firefighter after leaving football in 2019. According to WFAA, Escobar leaves behind a wife and two children.
