FTW: ‘Unusually high’ Number of Water Main Breaks Due to Excessive Heat/Drought

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of Fort Worth says that the extreme heat and lack of rain has triggered an unusually high number of water main breaks in the city; nearly 200 in the past 30 days due to “land shifting.”

Another happened overnight in a Fort worth neighborhood where we’re told that water was spewing above the trees in the middle of a street at Landin and Lipton just off of I-30.

In a press release the city says that the issue is complicated by labor shortages and employees out because of COVID-19 which has created a growing backlog of repairs. Outside contractors have been called in on an emergency basis to help.

Main breaks have a higher priority than leaks because customers can be without water, and the water loss is greater.
