Texas Republican and Democratic Parties React to Supreme Court Ruling Overturning Roe v. Wade

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News ) -The Texas Republican and Texas Democratic parties reacted immediately to the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade.

Friday’s ruling turns the issue over to the states, thus ending federal protections for abortion that have been in place for almost 50 years.

In a statement, the Texas GOP Chairman Matt Rinaldi said he lauds the High Court’s decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson case.

“Today is a historic day which Republicans and Pro-Life advocates have waited for a generation. It will be remembered in history as the day the United States of America reversed one of the most unjust, damaging and plainly incorrect judicial decisions in it’s history,” it said in part.

Texas Democratic Party Co-Executive Director Hannah Roe Beck said in a statement the party’s worst fear was realized.

“Nevertheless, we cannot and will not stop fighting. Make no mistake: Texas Democrats will not sit idly by as Republicans threaten the lives and liberty of millions of Texans,” it said in part.

Texas is among more than a dozen states to have passed so-called trigger laws which would go into effect 30 days after the High Court’s ruling, making performing an abortion a felony.

Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement reading in part:

“Texas is a pro-life state, and we have taken significant actin to protect the sanctity of life. Texas has also prioritized supporting women’s healthcare and expectant mothers in need to give them the necessary resources so that they can choose life for their child,” he said.
