Better Business Bureau North Texas Warns of Online Gun Store Scam

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Better Business Bureau is warning residents about an online gunstore whose customers claim scammed them out of their hard earned money.

Judy Holeman and her husband were on the market for a specific gun that they had trouble finding last year.

The residents of Quincy,Washington finally found the gun they wanted on Firearms-Texas.com for $877.

Judy Holeman said in hindsight, she thought the checkout process was sketchy. She said the link to pay went through several different sites and eventually landed on a PayPal account linked to [email protected].

“What should have been a red flag for me was I wasn’t going to be able to have PayPal go back and dispute for me if it didn’t show up,” she said.

The couple waited five days for the gun to be shipped to the nearest FFL dealer in their area but the firearm never came. When the expected delivery date passed all correspondence stopped.

Monica Horton with the Better Business Bureau North Texas said her agency received similar complaints from victims in twelve states.

The organization attempted to contact Texas-Firearms.com but never received a response.

Horton said unfortunately, the chances of getting a victim’s money back in situations like these are slim.

“These websites are registered outside of the United States so unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot that can be done outside of consumer education,” she said.

The Holemans said they’re never buying a gun online after this experience and are urging others to do more research when shopping on the web.

“Most of us work really hard for the things we want or acquire and then they come in and take your money and you can’t even afford to go get then,” said Judy Holeman.

WBAP News reached out to Firearms-Texas.com for comment but never heard back. The Better Business Bureau North Texas urges anyone who feels they were scammed by the website to contact their office.
