UPDATE: 6: 32 p.m. – Authorities say one of the hostages being held at a Jewish synagogue in Colleyville has been released. WBAP’s Clayton Neville broke the news at 6:31 p.m. describing the hostage as a man who is unharmed. At least three hostages are still being held by the armed gunman.

The incident began at around 10:40 a.m., Saturday, when an armed man entered the Congregation Beth Israel (6100 Pleasant Run Road) and began yelling. The FBI continues to negotiate with the suspect; aided by Department of Public Safety State Police, and other law enforcement agencies.

No injuries are reported, but police have cordoned off a seven block area around the synagogue, and evacuated nearby structures.

Sgt. Dara Nelson with the Colleyville Police Department asks people to stay away from the area, and offers to update concerned citizens on the City of Colleyville Facebook page.

According to WFAA, a Facebook livestream from the Congregation Beth Israel had as many as 8,000 viewers before it was cut shortly before 2 p.m. The fixed-camera shot showed the pulpit of the synagogue, and the faint voice of a man could be heard in the background. The footage did not show any other activity within the building.

Saturday is Shabbat, the day of the Sabbath, in the Jewish faith. Congregation Beth Israel hosts Shabbat services every Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The synagogue has been led by Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker since 2006.
