Community Mourns, Mesquite Police Identify Suspect in Officer’s Killing

MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF) – The suspect in the killing of Mesquite Police Officer Richard Houston was identified by the department on Monday.

According to MPD, 37-year-old Jaime Jaramillo of Balch Springs will be charged with Capital Murder of a Peace Officer.

Jaramillo is accused of shooting and killing Officer Houston outside a Mesquite grocery store late last week. The Officer was responding to a disturbance call.

A Police department is left hurting, but is inspired by support from across the metroplex.

“We are truly blessed,” said MPD Captain Steven Biggs. “Throughout this whole incident, starting on Friday when it happened, we’ve had overwhelming support from our community.”

Jaramillo was also shot outside the grocery store and is hospitalized in stable condition.
