Texas Law Enforcement Monitors Potential for More Migrant Caravans

As part of Operation Lone Star, law enforcement in Texas remains focused on securing the state’s southern border and monitoring migrant caravans.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott launched the operation earlier this year amid a surge of migrants at southern border. The Governor has been critical of the Biden administration’s response to the border surge. He said that if the Federal government won’t secure the border, Texas will.

According to DPS, Operation Lone Star has led to about 8,000 criminal arrests, drug seizures, and millions of dollars in confiscated cash.

The Texas National Guard is closely monitoring the movement of migrant caravans headed toward the United States.

“As of right now we don’t know exactly where they are going to go,” said Major Octaviano Griego. “[Thursday’s] reports say they haven’t made it to Mexico City yet. We can move assets and adjust operations based on any threats that make their way to the southern border.”

Thousands of migrants flooded U.S. entry points near Del Rio, Texas in September.
