Arlington Officer Fired, Chief Promises Transparency

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The Arlington Police Department, on Friday, released body camera footage of Wednesday’s officer involved shooting that left one person dead.

According to Police Chief Al Jones, 40-year-old Jesse Joseph Fischer was killed after Officer Robert Phillips fired multiple shots into the truck Fischer was driving. Body cam footage shows Phillips direct Fischer to stop. When Fischer, didn’t, Phillips opened fire.

Chief Jones aid Friday that he terminated Phillips after reviewing the video.

“This is about transparency,” Chief Jones said.

The Arlington Police Association and the Combined Law Enforcement of Texas called for Phillips to be reinstated.

“We’re jumping to conclusions and it’s been less than 48 hours,” APA President, Officer J.P. Mason said.

Chief Jones defended the firing. He said what is seen in the video isn’t going to change.
