Houston (WBAP/KLIF) – A gunman firing an AR-15 rifle ambushed three Houston constables, killing one of them. According to a police spokesman, the three were working security at a local bar early Saturday morning when a burglary call came in and they arrested a man in the parking lot.
That’s when the three were shot from behind by a second suspect with a rifle. The spokesman says 30 year old deputy Kareem Atkins was killed and leaves behind a wife and 2 month old baby. Deputy Darrell Garret is hospitalized after being shot in the back, while officer Juqaim Barthen was shot in the foot.
Houston Police say one person has been taken into custody, but it is not clear whether that person is a suspect or a witness.
