Redistricting Maps Await Governor’s Signature

(WBAP/KLIF) — The Texas Legislature has finalized new political maps during redistricting. State lawmakers, Friday, sent governor Greg Abbott new boundary maps for legislative districts.

The GOP controlled house and senate formulated the maps intended to strengthen the republican hold on the legislature. The house passed a new Senate redistricting map 81-60, while the Senate returned the favor on an 18-13 vote on a new House district boundaries.

The House also voted 84-61 in favor of new maps for the State Board of Education, a 15-member body made up of nine Republicans and six Democrats. According to the the Texas Tribune, once signed by the governor, the maps would be in effect over the next 10 years..
