During the ceremony the names of all 701 fallen officers nationwide in the past two years were read. Two-thirds of those who died succumb to COVID-19.

Lori Sharp-Day, Board Chair of the NLEOMF said that the pandemic change a lot of things for a lot of people.

She said the millions people were given the choice to work from home, but not police officers.

“They had to go work on the front lines. They couldn’t choose to not service a citizen’s needs because the citizen was not wearing a mask.”
