Richardson ISD Teacher, High School Student Die of COVID-19 Complications

RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Richardson ISD community is in mourning this week after learning that a teacher and high school student died of COVID-19 complications.

Eroletta Piascyk, a teacher at the Christa McAuliffe Learning Center, and Sha’Niyah “Niene” McGee, a junior at Berkner High School passed away last week.

In a letter to parents, district Superintendent Jeannie Stone said the news is a crushing blow and the two will be missed.

“Both Niene and Eroletta were highly cherished members of our RISD family and they will be fondly remembered and missed by their classmates and fellow teachers,” said the statement.

Stone said counselors will be on hand this week to help grieving students and staff.

The district held its regular board of education meeting Monday night, where officials held a moment of silence in honor of Piascyk and McGhee before discussing COVID-19 protocols.

Richardson ISD does have a mask mandate in place despite being one of several districts targeted in a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
