A Staggered Start to the School Year Begins in North Texas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A North Texas school district is beginning the school year in phases.

Students and staff at five Dallas ISD schools returned to the classroom on Monday for what will be a longer year than others in the district will have.

“These five schools are pioneers in getting caught up from learning loss,” DISD Superintendent, Michael Hinojosa.

DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said Monday that coming out of the pandemic the district is launching its School Day Redesign calendar.

“if they want to have more theatre, more arts, and more field trips, they now have more time to do it in,” Hinojosa said.

Maple Lawn Elementary, H.I. Holland Elementary School at Lisbon, Edna Rowe Elementary School, Thomas J. Rusk Middle School and Boude Storey Middle School have opted for the “School Day Redesign” calendar, where school starts August 2 and ends June 23 for all students.

Duncanville ISD and Garland ISD also began school on Monday. More districts will open in coming weeks.
