The Texas Republican Party names a New Chairman

IRVING (WBAP/KLIF)- Former State Representative Matt Rinaldi of Irving is named the next chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.

Rinaldi was elected to replace Allen West, who announced his resignation last month and is now challenging Governor Greg Abbott to become the next governor.

Rinaldi won the election by getting 34 votes from the 64-member State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) against three opponents. He needed 33 to win.

Rinaldi said in a statement, “I’m honored the SREC chose me to lead the party into the ever-important 2022 election cycle. “Republican state office holders and legislative majorities have led this state to prosperity and success. We look forward to continuing to make Texas a beacon of freedom for other states to emulate.”
Rinaldi represented Northwest Dallas County in the Texas House from 2015 to 2019.
