Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas County DA has decided against seeking the death penalty for alleged serial killer Billy Chemirmir. The 48-year old former health care worker, long considered one of the worst serial killers ever in Texas, is charged with 18 murders in Dallas and Collin counties.
About two years ago, District Attorney John Creuzot’s office said it was going to seek capital puni
shment against the former health care worker.
On Thursday the DA’s office said that Creuzot is now aiming for two jury trials that will bring convictions and two automatic life sentences without parole. A press release quotes Creuzot as saying, “In effect, there will be no chance for Mr. Chemirmir to die anywhere except in a Texas prison.”
Creuzot’s office also said that he spoke with the victims’ families a last month to explain his strategy.
The full statement reads:
“At that time, it was explained that the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney’s would request two jury trials, with the goal of securing two life sentences without the possibility of parole. If that goal is achieved, this office will ask the court to order that the sentences be served consecutively. In effect, there will be no chance for Mr. Chemirmir to die anywhere except in a Texas prison.”
Chemirmir targeted seniors in nursing homes, by smothering them and taking valuable personal items.
