MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF)- Family and attorneys for Marvin D. Scott, III are still looking for answers regarding his in custody death at the Collin County Jail.
It’s been more than a month since his death and the family said there is still so much unknown about the case.
“I cannot even tell you what happened to my son. All I know is that he arrived alive and ended up deceased. This has been very traumatic for our family,” said Mother LaSandra Scott.
The family and attorneys met with the District Attorney Monday, seeking justice and demanding the arrests of the former officers involved and of all body cam and video footage.
“We want to see these detention officers be arrested, we want to see it processed to a grand jury with indictment and these officers be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Blerim Elmazi, an attorney for Lee Meritt’s office.
According to Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner, Scott was arrested for possession of less than 2 oz of Marijuana in March.
He was taken to Collin County Jail and while in custody several officers tried to restrain him after he was “acting strange” in the jail booking area.
“Several detention Officers tried to secure him to a restraint bed and during the process used OC spray once and also used a spit mask on his face,” Sheriff Skinner said.
The Collin County Sheriff terminated seven officers under investigation and an eighth person resigned.
Scott’s family said he was experiencing a mental health crisis and was diagnosed with Schizophrenia two years ago.
On Saturday, April 17th, the family, friends and community of Scott, peacefully protested to “Shine a Light” on police brutality.
The group shared Marvin’s story in front of the Allen Event Center and surrounding restaurants while wearing glow sticks and passing out flyers.
