Impeachment Trial & Other Civil Litigation Plagues the Former President

WASHINGTON (AP) – The House is set to bring the impeachment article against former president Donald Trump for the Senate trial. But a growing number of Republican senators say they oppose the proceedings against the former president.

Trump was impeached on the charge that he incited a siege of the U.S. Capitol.

House Democrats who are prosecuting the case will walk the charge of “incitement of insurrection” to the Senate on Monday evening.

Here at home, Dallas-based constitutional lawyer David Coale says that there are also other issues related to the January 6 insurrection at the nation’s Capitol.

In addition to another looming impeachment trial, Trump also faces a number of financial related investigations and ongoing sexual harassment litigation.

Coale says the U.S. Constitution does not directly address an impeachment trial brought after the someone has left office.

At is relates to matters under scrutiny while Trump was in office, Coale says Trump probably won’t serve any jail time.
