Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – Despite a national moratorium on evictions, thousands of renters are getting the boot as landlords are finding ways around the temporary freeze.
Since the order was issued by the CDC in early September 4th, nearly 23-hundred eviction notices were filed in Fort Worth alone.
But a big legal effort backed with lots of money launched this month aimed at helping struggling renters.
A pilot program is underway in over a dozen Texas counties: Bee, Bexar, Brazos, Chambers, Deaf Smith, El Paso, Erath, Fannin, Grayson, Harris, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Montgomery, Palo Pinto, Parker, Potter, Randall, San Patricio, and Wise.
The program will rollout statewide on November 9th.
The Texas Eviction Diversion Program is being administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. To be covered by the eviction moratorium you must complete a self-declaration and provide it to your landlord. This is the sample CDC self-declaration
