Heated Debates Following The Death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg Continue in Washington

(WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- The recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has sparked heated debates in Washington.

Republicans saying they want to fill her seat before the election and Democrats saying that decision should be up to the winner of the presidency.

“The potential stakes their are enormous for the court,” said Constitutional Law Expert David Coale.

President Trump stated that intends to have his nomination selected by Friday and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said whoever he picks will have the vote of the Senate. A similar situation happened in 2016, when the court refused to hear nor vote for who then president Barack Obama nominated because it was too close to the election. Democrats in 2016 thought the president had the right to nominate someone, but republicans didn’t agree.

“You can also look at the democratic side of it the Obama administration said we’re entitled to fill this spot in the last year of our term now you hear democrats saying something different,” said Coale,” There is some inconsistency but the check on that will be at the ballot box,”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi recently is even considering another impeachment in order to halt President Trump’s nomination.

“I suppose somebody could go pull the fire alarm in on the wall in congress and keep everybody from voting too that’s pretty extreme stuff,” said Coale, “that just goes to show how difficult these times are people are looking at every possible option and thinking everything through because the stakes are so high.”
