Two Counties Harbor the Majority of North Texas Coronavirus Deaths

(WBAP/KLIF) — Of the nearly 5.4 million Coronavirus tests conducted in Texas, almost 679,000 have been positive. That number does not, however, differentiate between positive tests from new patients or ones from an active Coronavirus patient. As of Thursday, Dallas county has close to 77,000 positive tests, Tarrant county almost 46,000, Collin county approaching 13,000 and Denton over 11,000 COVID-19 confirmed positives.

The Metroplex reported 873 new positive tests to eclipse a grand total of 146,000 thousand.  The Texas total of COVID-19 positive tests increased by over 3,500, Thursday.  Dallas county health officials indicated another 406 positive COVID-19 tests were returned by area laboratories. Tarrant county reported 285 more confirmed tests, and Collin county 117 more.  Denton county continues to provide an additional statistic to go along with its 65 newly confirmed positive tests. that number is 60 of the 65 positive tests are active cases.

The death toll for the pandemic is nearing 15,000.  Dallas county has attributed almost 1,000 fatalities to the virus, while 616 Tarrant county residents have died. Collin county reports 133 deaths and Denton county has 107.  The death toll in the DFW area is over 1,800, 1,600 of which are from Dallas and Tarrant counties.

The mortality rate remains steady, as Dallas and Tarrant counties have a 1.3% fatality rate, while Collin county is at 1.1%, and Denton county is at 0.9%.
