Undated (WBAP/KLIF) – Over 500-thousand children across the country have been diagnosed with COVID-19; that word from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
According to a report by the AAP, from Aug. 20 to Sept. 3 there were over 70-thousand cases reported among children — an increase of 16 percent over 2 weeks.
The total of 513,415 total child COVID-19 cases reported, and children represents 9.8% of the more than 6 million cases nationwide; 103 children have died.
The largest increases are in six states: Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.
The AAP says that at this time, it appears that severe illness due to COVID-19 is rare among children.
However, states should continue to provide detailed reports on COVID-19 cases, testing, hospitalizations, and mortality by age and race/ethnicity so that the effects of COVID-19 on children’s health can be documented and monitored.
