7 Lake Highlands High School Athletes Test Positive for COVID-19; Football Workout Suspended

Richardson, TX (WBAP/IKLIF) – Richardson Independent School District officials have issued a warning to parents to watch for coronavirus symptoms after 7 people at Lake Highlands High School tested positive for COVID-19.

All RISD students have been learning remotely since August. 19, but high school athletic practices began August 12 for football, volleyball and cross country. according to the Lake Highlands Advocate.

In the email to parents, Athletic Coordinator Lonnie Jordan said some of the COVID cases are related to the football program.

In-person football workouts have been suspended. students were advised to self-quarantine.

Per the Lake Highlands Advocate:

“As a general practice, all parents should evaluate their students each day for symptoms of COVID-19,” the email urged, “and not send a child to any in-person school activity with any of these new or worsening symptoms:

  • Temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
  • Sore throat;
  • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.”
