Scaled Back RNC Kicks Off in Charlotte with Nominations

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBAP/KLIF) President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will be renominated Monday as the Republican National Convention begins in Charlotte.
The nomination inside the Charlotte Convention Center will be the only day of the RNC in the Queen City before focus shifts to Washington D.C.
Approximately 330 delegates will renominate the President and Vice President by mid-afternoon. Each U.S. state and territory is limited to six delegates amid concerns surrounding COVID-19.
President Trump may even make an appearance at the RNC after landing in Charlotte late Monday morning for a separate engagement.
According to Mecklenberg County Health Director Gibbie Harris, safety protocol surrounding COVID-19 is in place.
“All attendees have been tested seven days prior to the event,” said Harris. “If they did not have a negative test then they will not be attending.”
Delegates will also be tested and screened with temperature checks before going inside the convention center.
Texas delegate and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick told WBAP Sunday in Charlotte that he expects key issues to be brought up throughout the week.
“I think you’re going to see more LIVE interaction than you did with the Democrats,” said Lt. Governor Patrick. “We’re actually going to talk about policy of what this President has done and will do.”
The theme of the convention is “The Great American Story.”  First Lady Mealnia Trump is scheduled to speak from the White House Rose Garden on Tuesday. Vice President Mike Pence will accept his nomination on Wednesday from Baltimore. The President plans to accept the nomination Thursday from the White House South Lawn.
The RNC will produce a program to air each night on the major broadcast networks and it’s believed the President will speak during all four.
