DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas City Council’s Public Safety Committee will address police Chief Renee Hall this week about her recently released report on the department’s response to the first four days of protests earlier this summer. The demonstrations followed the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis Police custody.
Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall issued the report late last week highlighting communication and planning mistakes she said were made by the department.
Following the report’s release, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said he has “deep concerns” about what he called a “lack of leadership” in the department.
“It raises further questions about Police commanders’ decision-making and contains at least one statement that I personally know to be false,” Mayor Johnson said.
According to the Mayor, the report has inaccuracies” and omissions” that deserve scrutiny from the City Council’s Public Safety Committee.
“We must have accountability,” the Mayor insisted. “The peaceful protesters, affected business owners, adn people of Dallas deserve clear and thorough answers regarding the errors, miscalculations and shortcomings’ in the report.
The council will get a chance to hear from Chief Hall in a special called meeting set for Tuesday at 1 p.m.
