DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- North Texas doctors are warning how widespread Covid-19 really is. Texas Health Officials say a widespread perception that children don’t catch the virus is wrong. The statistics show more than 7% of all the confirmed cases statewide has been among people under the age of 19. In Dallas County more than 3,800 children have tested positive for the virus since testing began in late March, that’s 10% of all cases in the county.

Jeffrey Kahn Chief of Infectious Diseases at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas said to keep in mind where your children are going. “It’s concerning because older children are just as capable as spreading the virus as adults so that’s something we need to take into account when we think about schools opening for example,” said Kahn.

Kahn said household spread is the most common spread of the virus and children are experiencing similar symptoms as adults. “Check with your pediatrician or child’s doctors about what you should you do as school’s re open. That’s the key component here especially if your child has underlying health issues,” he said.
