Texas Sees Nearly 10,800 New COVID-19 Infections

(WBAP/KLIF) — The Lone Star State reported almost 10,800 new cases of COVID-19 and 110 fatalities, Wednesday.  Nearly 2,200 new cases in the Metroplex were fueled by Dallas county’s 1,055 new infections and Tarrant county’s 857 additional positives. Collin and Denton counties combined to report 285 new cases of the Coronavirus.

Those numbers pushed North Texas over the 66,000 case plateau.  Dallas county’s total number of cases is approaching 37,000, Tarrant county is nearing 20,000, while Collin county is just under 5,000 and Denton at about 4,500 total infections.  In all, Texas has more than 282,000 confirmed cases of the virus and over 3,400 deaths.

After a projected 5% mortality rate for COVID-19 at the onset of the pandemic, scientists are finding it less lethal.  Texas has a dropping mortality rate that now sits at 1.2%.  With 8 additional deaths, Wednesday, Dallas county has lost 485 residents for a 1.3% fatality rate. Tarrant county has 277 deaths and a mortality rate of 1.4%.

Collin reports 62 deaths for a 1.3% ratio, while Denton county has 41 deaths for a 0.9% mortality rate.
