TWC Awards $300,000 to Train Young Workers

(WBAP/KLIF) — The state is investing in young Texans between the ages of 16 and 24.  The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) will pony up over a quarter of a million dollars to develop construction skills within high school and college age kids.

Workforce commissioners approved $300,000 to be used to train high school and college age Texans in the construction industry.  According to the TWC’s Cisco Gamez, the commission wants to focus on young workers.

The grant money is part of a previously approved $1.8 million for the building and construction trades grant program. The TWC is utilizing the money in the form of grants to be awarded this fall. skill development will be provided by non-profit and higher education institutions in the building construction industry.

State officials believe the grants will increase the quality of the Texas workforce by investing in the next generation.  Those interested can contact their nearest Texas Workforce Commission office.
