TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF)- For the second day in a row Tarrant County surpassed 600 new Coronavirus cases.

Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley says they’ve been hitting record numbers. He said over the last week they’re closing in on over 4,000 cases and the total case count is nearing 13,000.

“I am concerned that we are continuing to see the spike in numbers and I really am hopeful that as we go into the Fourth of July weekend, people will take this seriously,” said Whitely.

He said in the last two weeks, hospital capacity has more than doubled. Whitely is strongly urging people to wear a mask, “Wearing a mask will keep the county open. I know it may be inconvenient but we are doing whatever we can to keep Tarrant County businesses open,” he said. “If people do not choose to follow the orders and wear a mask, with the holidays coming, we aren’t going to see a flattening of cases,” said Whitely.

Dallas County reported 544 additional positive cases, bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 21,882.

The state of Texas hit it’s daily record at 8,076, which is 1,000 more cases than Tuesday. The states total is at 168,062.
