Arlington Independence Day Parade Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- For the first time in over 50 years, the City of Arlington will not have an Independence Day parade.

It’s the city’s longest run event, however due to the spike in Coronavirus cases, event coordinator Will Busby said they wanted to make sure residents were safe. “We really wanted to make it happen this year and provide some sort of normalcy for our residents, but as cases continue to spike, we thought it was in the best interest to cancel it this year for the health and safety of everyone,” he said.

Busby said the event usually brings up to 50,000 people to Downtown Arlington, making it hard for those to social distance. He said though this year’s event was cancelled, there’s a lot in store for next year’s parade. “The words of encouragement that I have is that we are coming back next year for the 56th annual parade and it will be the biggest and most epic parade that Texas has ever seen,” he said.

The city’s firework display is still on schedule for the Fourth of July, with social distancing measures in place, but that can change.

There is no custom code to display.
