New Ordinance Requires Mask Wearing in Tarrant County Businesses

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF)- Tarrant County Commissioners passed a new ordinance that requires everyone to wear a mask in Tarrant County establishments. This will go into affect on June 26th at 6 PM and will through August 3rd at 6 AM. Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley said if things get better they can pull the restrictions, if not they will extend it. “To be very honest with you I would like to strongly recommend that if you leave your home, put on a mask,” said Whitley. “If you’re in a park or a place like that without a mask you may be asked to leave that area,” he said.

Allergist Robert Rogers, Representing the Tarrant County Medical Society said there’s been a lot of controversy over wearing a mask but the scientific data is clear. “We have learned a lot since the start of this pandemic and mainly is that wearing a mask is one of the most effective tools we have to suppress transmission of the disease,” said Rogers. Rogers also wanted to address any claims made against wearing a mask. “There are some fears that you can somehow get oxygen deprivation or carbon dioxide poisoning. I have friends who are surgeons that wear masks all day long, workers in paint shops or workers in an industrial setting wear N-95 masks all day long, and they are fine,” he said.

Susan Bailey, President of the American Medical Association echoed Rogers message. “Wear a mask, stay home if you can, stay 6 feet apart if you can’t and keep your hands clean,” said Bailey. Bailey said this is truly effective in stopping the spread of COVID19. “We are following the science and I think this is important for everyone to understand; this is about science and research not about emotion or politics,” she said.

Bailey said ‘business as usual’ is going to be different for a while until this virus is under control.
