DFW (WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- Citizens all over the state are celebrating Juneteenth, the holiday which celebrates the day slaves were freed in Texas in 1865.

Multiple events are being held across DFW. The Not My Son organization is holding a celebration in Dallas at Lofty Spaces off of Montgromery Street from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Organizer Tramonica Brown wants this to be a huge celebration but also an opportunity for people to continue the fight against racial injustice.

“We went through all of that years ago 400 plus years ago and we’re still having to fight the same battle so we understand our strategy has to be different,” said Brown.

Brown says attendees will have the opportunity to register to vote as well as learn which officials to speak too on subjects such as racial injustice and police reform.
