Several DFW Counties Report Highest One Day COVID-19 Daily Case Counts Since Pandemic Began

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Several DFW counties are reporting some of their highest daily COVID-19 case counts since the coronavirus pandemic began.

As of 11 a.m. on Friday, Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 328 additional positive cases, bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 13,585, including 280 deaths.

“Today’s numbers continue a trend of more positive COVID-19 tests than ever before, which we’ve seen for each of the last four days. It should be remembered, that part of this could be due to increased testing,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. “The more concerning number is the increase that we’re seeing in hospitalizations for COVID-19. We are at our highest numbers for the region and for Dallas County again today.”

Denton County Public Health announced 55 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday.  This increases the cumulative, countywide total to 1,687 confirmed COVID-19 cases.  DCPH is also reporting 42 newly recovered cases of COVID-19.

“Today, we are reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day within Denton County,” stated Dr. Matt Richardson, DCPH Director.  “Summer is arriving, but COVID-19 has not gone anywhere. We’ve got to take this seriously.  More than ever, we must remain vigilant in wearing masks, handwashing, and physical distancing to protect ourselves and others.”

DCPH is providing a free drive-thru COVID-19 testing center in Denton on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.  The testing center will be held at the University of North Texas’ Union Circle Parking Garage at 350 S. Welch Street from 8 AM – 12 PM. Eligible community members are those who have had symptoms of COVID-19 within the past 7 days, essential employees, individuals 60 years and older, as well as individuals who have had contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

Tarrant County reported 296 new COVID-19 cases on Friday along with the county’s 191st coronavirus related death. It’s the second highest one-day case count in Tarrant county since the pandemic began but health officials say 197 of the 296 new cases are due to a backlog in lab reporting.
