George Floyd Laid to Rest in Texas

HOUSTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Hundreds of people attended a private service for George Floyd Tuesday in Houston, weeks after he died in Minneapolis Police custody.
Former Vice President and current Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden appeared on the big screen at Fountain of Praise Church with a message for Americans.
“We cannot leave this moment thinking we can once again turn away from racism that stings at our very soul,” said Biden. “Because when there’s justice for George Floyd we will truly be on our way to racial justice in America.”
During the service, George Floyd’s family reflected on the man the community knew as Big Floyd.
“Everybody is going to remember him around the world,” his brother said. “He’s going to change the world.”

Floyd’s niece called for the country to unite.

“America, it is time for a change. Even if it means more protests,” she said. No justice, no peace.”

Plans were announced during the service to establish a sports facility in Houston in George Floyd’s name.
After the service hundreds of people lined the streets outside the cemetery in Pearland where Floyd was laid to rest. The burial was closed to the public.
