AUSTIN – WBAP/KLIF – A few dozen anti-government demonstrators rallied at the state capital in Austin on Saturday. They held signs declaring the Covid-19 pandemic a hoax, and shouting “Arrest Bill Gates”.
About 300 protested the weekend prior, demanding to get back to work.
Health officials maintain Covid-19 illnesses have struck at least 54 thousand Texans, killing at least 15 hundred since mid-March.
The rally featured several speakers, including the Dallas hair business owner Shelley Luther, who was briefly jailed after continuing to run her business although cited for the operation by both the City of Dallas and Dallas County.
The reopening of Texas has allowed businesses such as gyms, bars, aquariums and bingo halls to open at limited capacities; bars are open at 25% capacity and restaurants, at 50%.
