Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – Help is on the way for major U.S. airlines after acceptance of the government’s terms to receive billions of aid and keep hundreds of thousands of employees on the payrolls.
The package includes a combination of grants – which the airlines do not need to pay back – and low-interest loans, which the airlines and labor unions heavily resisted ,
Fort Worth- based American Airlines expects to get close to $6-billion … Dallas-based Southwest Airlines will get a little over $3-billion.
The deal bans airlines from stock buy backs and layoffs, and limits on executive compensation.
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced a 10-billion dollar reward to commercial and other smaller airports that have suffered devastating blows as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
DFW Airport will receive 300-billion dollars and Dallas Love Field will get 50-million.
The funds from the coronavirus relief package support airports in continuing operations, and to replace revenues lost due to the dramatic drop in passengers.
