DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Governor’s office is working with the City of Dallas to appeal a FEMA decision to deny federal disaster money related to last year’s string of damaging tornadoes.
In order to receive the federal funds Dallas had to prove it suffered more than $38 million dollars in uninsured damages. According to FEMA, the city didn’t reach that threshold. State and city officials said Tuesday that the failure to reach the threshold was caused by troubles the school district had with providing documents for their uninsured losses.
John Wittman with Governor Abbott’s Office said the state appeal process has begun.
“That process involves working with the City of Dallas and the school district to make sure that we are calculating the damages correctly,” Whitman said.
According to Wittman, the state is confident Dallas will meet the threshold on appeal.
