Ford Motor Company Creating Face Shields, Delivering to North Texas Health Care Workers

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Ford Motor Company has halted production on vehicles and engines but United Auto Workers in plants are now producing face shields and ventilators for area hospitals.

So far, Ford has produced over 30,000 FDA approved face shields to health care workers in DFW. “We anticipate to produce more as the need arises and hospitals are reaching out to us if they need more shields,” said Robert Beaird with Ford. “We are leveraging our in house 3D printing capabilities to produce components for the face shields and using strict guidelines from the FDA,” he said.

The face shields fully block the face and eyes from accidental contact with liquids and when paired with N95 respirators can be a more effective way to limit potential exposure to coronavirus than N95 respirators alone.

Beaird said Ford is helping around 15 Medical City Hospitals in North Texas:

In collaboration with GE Healthcare, Ford also expects to produce 50,000 ventilators and distribute them to hospitals throughout the country within the next 100 days. Ford also has the ability to produce 30,000 a month thereafter as needed.
