WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House is proposing an almost $850 billion emergency stimulus package to address the economic impact of the coronavirus on the nation’s economy.
Senate Republicans will consider the measure Tuesday, which aims to provide relief for small businesses, the airline industry and propose a massive tax cut for wage earners.
The White House hopes the measure will pass this week.
Meanwhile, at Tuesday morning’s White House Coronavirus Task Force press conference, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced the administration is considering other ways to buffer the economy.
He said President Trump wants to government to send checks to Americans within the next two weeks.
Mnuchin gave few details except to say the amount would be significant and millionaires would not qualify for the benefit.
