DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — As if their jobs aren’t already difficult and hazardous some Dallas police officers now have to fight bed bugs while they fight crime.

The Dallas PD northeast and southeast substations have reportedly both been infected as well as some of their patrol cars. WFAA reports the pests began to appear at the end of January and have been very difficult to eradicate.

A pest extermination company was brought into the case on February 6 but within a few days the procreating pests began to reappear in large numbers. Commanders ordered the Southeast Patrol Division evacuated and fumigated. A command post was set up behind the building.

After the fumigation was completed the department moved back in thinking the problem was solved. Then bed bugs began turning up in patrol cars.

Don Brooks, the owner of Doffdon Pest Control, told WFAA, “All it takes is a single bed bug, a pregnant female, to hitchhike a ride home and you could have a big problem.”

A survey published last year by Orkin ranked Dallas-Ft. Worth among the top ten cities in America for bed bug problems. Terminix ranks DFW as number three.
