Fort Worth’s Panther Island Bridges Balloon to $89-Million

(WBAP/KLIF) FORT WORTH, TX — Three Panther Island flood control project bridges are still under construction…nearly three years behind schedule.  The three bridges originally set for completion in 2018 will likely begin service in 2021.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Bud Kennedy says engineering is a big hold-up.  Engineers had to redesign the bridges to support the traffic, which cost an additional $20 million.  That bumped the price tag from $69.9-million to $89-million.

Frustration has set in for local business owners and residents located around the three Fort Worth bridges. The White Settlement road, North Main street, and Henderson street are still under construction.  in addition, White Settlement has been closed since 2014 which cuts traffic off from downtown.
