Cowboys Name Mike McCarthy as New Head Coach

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Former Green Bay Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy is reportedly the new coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Team sources reportedly said Monday that the Cowboys and McCarthy struck a deal after meeting twice over the weekend. The news came less than 24 hours after the team announced it was parting ways with Jason Garrett.

“We are extremely grateful to Jason Garrett for his more than 20 years of service to the Dallas Cowboys as a player, assistant coach and head coach,” Owner Jerry Jones said. “His level of commitment, character and dedication to this organization has been outstanding at every stage of his career.”

McCarthy was the Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2006 until 2018.

“Whatever he said in that meeting was all Jerry needed to hear,” said WBAP/KLIF Sport Director Steve Lamb. “This is my guy. He’s got a good track record. He was a winner when he was at Green Bay.”

McCarthy won Super XLV with the Packers. The game was played at his future home, AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
