“Affluenza Teen” Released from Custody Following “Weak Positive” on Drug Test

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Ethan Couch, the so-called “affluenza teen,” was released from custody Friday after being arrested earlier in the week on a probation violation.

According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, the drug patch Ethan Couch wore for monitoring showed a “weak positive” for THC. The probation department said they “did not have confidence in the result.”

“Until final testing, we cannot tell if the patch result was actually THC,” said Criminal District Attorney, Sharen Wilson. “We cannot tell whether the weak positive was caused by legal CBD oil or illegal marijuana.”

If it’s found later that Couch did use illegal drugs, the D.A. said his probation will be revoked.

Couch was convicted of four counts of intoxication manslaughter in 2013 and given probation.
