DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Flu Surveillance Report provided to the Centers For Disease Control in the last two weeks by health officials in Tarrant County, confirm there has been a second pediatric flu death in Tarrant County. The first flu related pediatric death in the last four years, was reported earlier this month.

County officials said a pediatric death indicates any person under the age of 18.

WBAP/KLIF confirmed the death today with Richard Hill,Public Information Officer with the Tarrant County Health Department. Although due to HIPPA laws, the county is not permitted to release any additional information.

According to Hill, there may be a surge in flu activity in the next week following the holidays and family dinners. “It’s important to remember that flu can be a deadly illness and you should take it seriously”, Hill said.

Hill shares that one of the best ways to avoid the flu is simply by washing your hands. “It’s still not too late to get a flu shot, and the best day to do that is today, said Hill.”
