Buckle Up; Deadly Wise County Crash Claims One Life; 6 Additional Injured Victims.

MINERAL WELLS, WISE COUNTY – Department of Public Safety Trooper Ricky Hunter says wet roads and lack of a seat belt has claimed the life of 47 year old Maneuela H. Pedroza.  In that same car, the driver, 20 year old Alexander Nieto was critically injured.  Troopers say his vehicle began slipping on wet pavement as he drove south on Farm Road 370 Saturday morning, and collided with another vehicle driving north.

An Azle couple was airlifted in critical condition to Fort Worth’s Harris Methodist Hospital; 37 year old Calvin Loftice and 31 year old Cori Loftice.  Two children with them, ages five and two, were also transported to hospitals; the two year old child has been released.  The five year old child remains at Cook Children’s Hospital.

Authorities say the driver of the car that began slipping on the wet pavement was driving too fast for conditions, and that he was not wearing a seat belt; 20 year old Alexander Nieto was ejected from his vehicle and transported with a 14 year old female to Medical City Hospital in Denton.

Troopers remind us to wear seat belts, noting, if air bags deploy during an accident, passengers and drivers can sustain greater and sometimes deadly injuries if not additionally buckled up.
