FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Former Fort Worth Police Officer Jon Romer was found guilty of aggravated perjury.

The Fort Worth Police Department fired Romer after a Tarrant County Jury found him guilty.

“We respect the jury’s decision and have confidence in the due process of the criminal justice system. The Fort Worth Police Department remains committed to operating in a clear and transparent manner holding all employees accountable for their actions. We will continue to partner with all available resources to prevent and reduce crime, build trust, and create the safest City in the country,” The Department said in a statement.

Video surveillance shows officer Romer punching a man during an off duty security job in 2016 in the lobby of Harris Methodist Hospital. Romer told investigators he used force after telling the man he was under arrest but that man testified he was never told he was. Prosecutors said he lied about the facts in his police report. The judge and attorneys decided to wait before determining his sentence, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
