Fort Worth Spike in Crashes During Holiday Weekend

FORT WORTH -WBAP/KLIF – Fort Worth’s first responder system Medstar is reporting significant increases in the number of rollover crashes this holiday weekend, with the final hours still to count down.  10 rollover crashes are reported thus far during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend; 17 have been documented for the entire year.

Zavadsky reports 102 crashes responded too in Fort Worth this weekend, 230 for the year.  He blames, in part, today’s vehicles of choice – SUV’s, Zavadsky says, have a higher center of gravity and are more prone to roll when a driver makes a fast correction.  Zavasksy says there’s still an issue with some drivers not wearing seat belts, and/or not correctly buckling children into a secure, approved safety seat.

Distractions can also help to create conditions making crashes more likely; Zavadsky suggests with the mad crush of people returning to their North Texas home that drivers maintain extra attention on the road, and ask passengers to avoid creating distractions that will take attention from operating their vehicle.
