FTW Police Officer Seriously Hurt By Drunk Driver, Suspect Arrested

Fort Worth police arrested 32-year-old Oscar Barragan. He faces a third degree felony charge of Intoxication Assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

Fort Worth Officer Buddy Calzada said the officer was picking up cones and flares when she and her squad car were hit. “She had her emergency lights on and was wearing a reflective vest…she did everything she could to be visible,” said Calzada.

Calzada says Barragan’s car went into a ditch and he ran away. Officers found him on a field next to a service road bu Highway 287 and Harmon Road. Calzada said Barragan also has three outstanding local warrants.

The department has not released the officers name but said she is with family and Chief Kraus who are looking over her closely. Calazada said she was commissioned into the department in 2016.



Fort Worth Police say that at around 2:45 this morning an sergeant with the North Division notified a dispatcher that an officer was hit by a vehicle. At the same time, a Tom Unit pulled up behind the accident and called out for assistance, Officer Down.

An officer on foot was putting out cones and flares when a vehicle hit the officer on foot and the officer’s vehicle. The subject then ran from his vehicle.

Multiple officers made scene along with Air One and found the actor walking on the service road. The subject then began to run into a field from officers. Officers arrested the subject and requested medical assistance for the subject.

The officer has being transported to a local hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – A Fort Worth police officer has been hospitalized in serious condition after being hit by a drunk driver while assisting on another DWI call overnight.

The accident happened around 2:30 this morning near Highway 287 and Harmon road.

The injured officer was putting out cones along the road when she was hit.

The suspect ran off on foot but was caught and taken in the custody.
